PKAVS Carers Hub are delighted to announce that our Young Carers Service has been awarded a grant of £2.5K from The Crerar Trust.
This funding will prove invaluable in helping us to plan a fun, action-packed respite programme for Young Carers aged between 5 – 15. Being a young carer may mean that a child may take on extra responsibilities to help support and care for a loved one which can sometimes mean that they miss out opportunities to just be kids!
Crerar Hotels operate 11 hotels and inns which are based in Scotland. Uniquely, more than 50% of the group's distribute profits and donated to charities operating in the areas where Crerar Hotels are based.
The Trust, which is chaired by Paddy Crerar CBE, has awarded £7.5m of grants to over 400 organisations over the last 17 years. This forms part of a commitment to re-invest in the communities in which the group's hotels and inns are based.
The Crerar Trust meets twice a year to award grants, with application periods closing on 1 April and 1 October, respectively. In this current funding round, £251, 187.00 of grants were awarded to 30 organisations.
A wide variety of organisations received awards, including those providing support across health, education, and social inclusion to people of all ages.
Paddy Crerar CBE, Chairman, of the Crerar Trust and Chief Executive of Crerar Hotels comments:
"We are delighted to have made this award to PKAVS Young Carers Service and look forward to hearing how this funding helps impact their work. Crerar Hotels is committed to giving back to the local community to help it grow and thrive, and provide opportunities that may otherwise seem out of reach. For every stay our customers have with us they are supporting others, who really need it. It is great for our folk in the hotel to see their hard work and efforts helping people in their own communities as well as those from throughout the whole of Scotland."
Our young carers service run weekly respite groups, trips, residentials and events such as the amazing Christmas Extravaganza we held in December for young carers to enjoy some time out of their caring role and meet other kids in similar situations. This would not be possible if it wasn't for the generous support we receive from funders like The Crerar Trust.
The purpose of Young Carers Awareness Day is to raise public awareness of the challenges faced by young people because of their caring role.
The end of last year was a very busy time for our Young Carers as always! Read on to find out what they got up to!
This year for the October Holidays we decided to do something a little different and organised two overnight residentials up in the beautiful village of Kinloch Rannoch.
