What are the eligibility criteria?

Each local authority must develop local eligibility criteria for carers caring for someone who lives in their locality. The eligibility criteria looks at the impact caring has on different areas in your life as a carer and is used to determine whether Perth & Kinross Council has a duty or power to provide support to you as a carer.

You can view Perth & Kinross’ Adult Carers Eligibility Criteria Framework here. Please note that there are separate eligibility criteria for Young Carers and Adult Carers in Perth & Kinross. In 2017 we ran a public consultation regarding Perth & Kinross’ draft eligibility criteria for carers as part of the implementation of the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016. In drafting the framework consideration was given to other local carers eligibility criteria frameworks including the Coalition of Cares in Scotland Best Practice Framework. Current practices and carers assessments processes within Perth and Kinross were also taken into account. The finalised Adult Carers Eligibility Criteria was approved by the Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Integration Joint Board (IJB) on Friday 26th January 2018 following consultation with carers and professionals working with carers. You can download the Public Consultation and Engagement report here to see what feedback was received and the changes made.
